Lamerpad is a multilingual handwriting input server in X to input characters into XIM clients (such as rxvt, kterm, GTK+ apps, etc.). Currently it supports Japanese (EUC-JP), Traditional Chinese (BIG5) and Simplified Chinese (GB2312), but can easily be extended as it internally uses Unicode.
